I so thoroughly enjoyed a post by Laurie Ruettimann (aka the Cynical Girl) yesterday, that I thought it was a great opportunity to review some real-life terrible HR mannerisms that I’ve encountered. Check out Laurie’s post here: http://thecynicalgirl.com/monday-morning-hr-humor-worst-hr-person-ever/, video courtesy of SNL. HR mannerisms I’ve witnessed that should be stopped, immediately:
- When sending an email about bad news, or any news really – do NOT use Comic Sans font. Be professional, seriously.
- While you may know everything about every employee, do NOT spout off random facts about people such as address or SSN – it’s freaky and it is not impressive, despite what you think.
- When you go to term someone, at least make a decent effort to look professional. I know, jeans are a lot more comfortable, but you are changing someone’s life – at least show a little respect for that.
- When you present an offer, make sure you have the facts straight – salary, grade, position title, and so on. We really don’t want to have a new employee thinking they are filling a position that they are not.
What other mannerisms have you witnessed that should be added to this list?
